This story came from a writing assignment that asked for a complete story in 100 - 200 words. This one came in at 104 words.

Larry's Bagel

Like every morning, Larry stopped at the deli, ordered a coffee and bagel, then sat in the same chair facing the window.

He took a bite and watched a woman fumble with a red umbrella before getting in a taxi. As he swallowed, the chunk of bagel lodged in his trachea. His eyes screamed panic with the lack of airflow. He clutched his throat and banged the table.

The only other customer grumbled annoyance, though his eyes never left his iPad. The girl behind the counter thumbed a text to her boyfriend.

Larry’s face turned red then blue. He fell from his chair, dead.
